800, Mile, 5000m

Athletes in Action Sports Complex & Retreat Center

1197 S Detroit St. Xenia, OH 45385

In the first decade of the 1900's, Wilbur and Orville Wright successfully developed the first working motor operated airplane. Much of their world changing work took place in the Dayton, Ohio area. Just as this region was a launchpad for the Wright Brothers success, we hope that it too will be a launchpad for success for high school, collegiate, and post-collegiate distance runners at the Take Flight Distance Classic.

*Open, unattached, master's, and club athletes are welcome to compete.*

Elite Men's and Women's Mile

The goal for these elite races is to take down the fastest mile ran on Ohio soil for each gender. The current mark stands at 3:56.56 for the men (José Manuel Abascal (ESP) in 1984) and 4:32.29 (Leah O'Connor, Michigan State, 2015) for the women. To help reach that goal, we are offering prize money to the top 3 finishers ($500-$300-$100) and a $1000 bonus to the winner of the race if they are under the current record.
